FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year 2027

Are you a secondary school student with a passion for agriculture? The FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year is your chance to dive into the world of farming, test your skills, and connect with like-minded peers.

There is no level of knowledge or experience required to enter a team into the FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year Contest. While it's a contest, it is also an educational opportunity to dust up on some new skills or just have a go!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Teams of two will compete in seven modules, earning points out of 140. The five highest scoring teams will advance to a buzzer-style quiz, the Face-Off. The top two teams will then qualify to represent their region at Grand Final.

ENTRY FEE
$10 per team

WHAT WILL I BE TESTED ON?
Expect challenges related to the Contest sponsors, with a variety of tasks across different topics. There is a module topic library here which provides some ideas of what might be in modules. This is an educational resource rather than a guide to go by. Every team will also receive tips and tricks the week before your Regional Final.

WHO CAN ENTER?
The competition is open to students enrolled in secondary school (years 9-13) OR in their first year at an NZQA-approved tertiary education provider as of February 1st 2027. Placeholder teams are no longer allowed, if placeholder teams are entered they will be removed. Please see Conditions of Entry for more info.

WHEN DO I NEED TO REGISTER BY?
Entries close at 11:59pm the Sunday prior to the event. If you miss this deadline, please contact NZYF team here. If team registrations have sold out, you can join the waitlist and will be notified if a spot opens up - please note you'll have 48 hours to complete your entry.
