This resource has been designed to help you plan and run a Pet Day/Calf Club Event. Throughout this resource, you will find activities that cater to children who have farm animals as pets, those with household pets and children who do not have pets at all. Along with this booklet, you can download resources for the Baking and Colouring Competitions. 

5 Lessons

‘Bigger and Better,’ is an inquiry based Science and Technology Unit. This resource supports year 7 – 8 learners to develop achievements for levels three to four science within the context of sheep and/or beef farming whose key focus is on bigger and better meat production.
‘Bigger and Better,’ covers activities that will help your learners explore the relationship between science and farming, gain knowledge about the main breeds of livestock that contribute to the red meat industry, investigate farming techniques that produce a high quality and quantity of animals and gain a basic understanding of how genetic science is applied to farming practices in NZ.

A future-focused social inquiry for years 7–8 students, debunking myths and stereotypes about the agricultural sector of New Zealand’s primary industries.

This worksheet teaches students about the variety of high-quality food produced in New Zealand and invites them to investigate the importance of NZ's produce in the global market.

Students will research how wheat is produced, processed and used to make a variety of foodstuffs. Using a flowchart to outline the process, they will then produce a piece of writing explaining the different steps involved.
