Grace Moscrip and Cara Doggett dominated the TeenAg competition - winning the practical, speech competition and taking out the title for the Northern region.
Jessica Furrer, Angus Wallace and William Wilson from Geraldine took out the AgriKids competition.
“Competition was fierce this weekend,” said Competitions Coordinator David Highsted. “It was awesome to see how passionate each team was about each aspect of the competition.”
Second place in the TeenAg competition was presented to Cameron Lyon and Jack Millar from Timaru and third place to Joshua Osborne and Sam Lourie of Mt. Aspiring.
For the AgriKids competitors, second was earned by Isabella Cross, Tom Hassall and Jack Simpson of Loburn and third going to Millie Higinbottom, Patrick Wellbrock and Felicity Johnson.
NZ Young Farmers programmes like AgriKids and TeenAg allow students from farm and non-farming backgrounds alike to learn many skills necessary later on in life. Many recipients of these awards go on to receive highly sought after scholarships or even compete in the FMG Young Farmer of the Year.
“This competition isn’t just for kids with a farming background,” said Highsted. “Thank you to all those that traveled from across the country to let their students be part of the future of the Primary Industries.”
